Allegro to Showcase Latest Innovations at PCIM Europe Next Week
Allegro offers semiconductor technology that increases efficiency and safety and reduces PCB space
Allegro MicroSystems, a leader in power and sensing solutions for motion control and energy efficient systems, will show a new coreless current sensor IC and the industry’s quietest brushless DC (BLDC) motor control solution at the PCIM Europe 2019 Exhibition (Nuremberg, Germany, 7 – 9 May) in Hall 6, Booth 255. These new devices are helping to fulfill the company’s promise to move technology – and the world – towards a safer and more sustainable future.
The new coreless current sensor IC - the ACS37650 - offers substantial space savings by eliminating the need for a concentrator core in high-current sensing applications while providing closed-loop sensing, with extremely low noise and high resolution.
Allegro’s AMT49406 is the first member of the company’s QuietMotion family and is the first-to-market field-oriented control (FOC) BLDC electric motor controller that is customer code-free. This device is currently in production and will provide reliable, efficient and low audible noise performance while greatly simplifying design.
Visitors to Allegro’s booth will be able to see these parts in action and experience a variety of other demonstrations spanning technologies and industries - including automotive and industrial applications –all with an eye on space savings, efficiency and safety.
Coreless and 1MHz current sensor ICs
In addition to the coreless demonstration, Allegro will also be showcasing automotive-qualified 1MHz current sensor ICs. Providing faster and higher current sensing ranges in space-saving packages, Allegro’s 1MHz current sensor ICs are more reliable than transformers and aid in BOM reduction. Improving both safety and system efficiency, these ICs are currently achieving great success in automotive on-board chargers, industrial power supplies, and intelligent motion applications.
Electronic power steering (EPS) safety systems
From gate drivers, PMICs and current sensors to latches, linear and angle sensors, Allegro offers everything but the microprocessor for high-performance, high-availability safety systems like EPS and electronic power braking (EPB). Designed in accordance with ISO 26262 to meet increasingly stringent ASIL requirements, Allegro devices enable fail-functional system level solutions that are ready to act when other systems fail.
An EPS board (top and bottom) will be on display to showcase all devices and how they contribute to the safety of this application.
Fan and pump motor drivers
These motor drivers feature embedded FOC and initial position detection (IPD) algorithms and Allegro’s QuietMotion technology ensuring ultra-quiet operation with zero reverse angle start up. Visitors will be able to see and hear the difference between the AMT49406 BLDC sensorless motor drivers and a traditional sensorless start-up solution with an interactive interface that puts Allegro devices up against competing parts.
Power monitoring
Allegro’s power monitoring ICs can achieve reinforced isolation with fewer components - providing an isolated solution without needing opto-coupler or dual output supplies. The power monitoring device will be in action on tablets connected to a household coffee maker, and as the coffee maker is used visitors will be able to observe the dynamic measurement of the power draw.
Improved magnetic rotary encoders
Allegro’s Vertical Hall Technology is revolutionising the design of magnetic encoders by enabling dual-channel Hall latches that sense in two dimensions simultaneously. The result is fewer parts, less space, lower power, and unprecedented flexibility. These 2D sensors are insensitive to magnetic pole-pitch and air gap and do not rely on the precise location or spacing of sensors.
Visitors will see demonstrations of how these new devices can sense the target from any face of the device. Users will be able to toggle between a device using older/competing parts and parts designed with Vertical Hall technology to see the difference in readings.
